Nice work. I will follow that pattern and include it in my training routine.
Sounds great!
I tried to download through the limk but it goes to your website. Don’t see how to download.
Click this link; www.jefflewistrumpet.com/jazz-etudes-for-trumpet Then scroll halfway down and click the picture of the music and it should open up in your browser.
@@JeffLewisTrumpet thanks. Got it.
Dude you are freakin smooth, disregard the comment about the horn, I'm trippin. But would love to know what horn you're playing on.
Thanks! I play a Bach 42 reverse lead pipe.
Absolutely loving this tutorial, BTW what horn is that? Is your bell on the right side or is that just my imagination.
I am glad you are finding it helpful! Thanks for checking it out. Sometimes when I shoot videos, my camera will automatically reverse the angle for some reason!
I have a question regarding embouchure. I have been practicing the trumpet with no progress gotten yet. I’ve been playing for 3 years. How do you roll in lips without any lip over teeth.
Sorry to hear that! Can you tell me more about what you mean by “without lip over teeth”? Also, rolling in is not for everyone.
@@JeffLewisTrumpet this issue has been going on for 3 years. I’d say I am preforming at professional level but I need some correction. The question is when you roll in your lips how do you get it to not overlap your teeth. Do I use my tongue to push it away so it does not over lap the teeth?
@@JeffLewisTrumpet no response Jeff?
I would try subtle micro adjustments. Perhaps try not rolling in and see what happens or maybe adjusting your jaw position. See if that helps.
🔥🔥
Thanks!
Please can i have your WhatsApp contact?
Nice! Silly question: the keys written there (F, G7...) are for trumpet or for piano? (in short: as a trumpet player, do I have to transpose them to Bb, or are they already fine like this?)
No need to transpose. They are in trumpet key. And, not a silly question! Thank you for checking it out.
I also go back and forth between the same two mouthpieces. Both are great. The Lead, I use if 90% of the notes are above E. It definitely helps with hitting high notes more comfortably. They're also closer together so I find I slip higher than I should sometimes (just gotta work on my ear for those notes). And yeah, I have two embouchures, like you mentioned. I do find the high note one still plays lower notes fine. It's a matter of practicing out my original embouchure so there's only one.
I basically do the same thing and I’m constantly trying to iron out the two registers. Thanks for sharing!
ТИ НЕ ТИМ БОКОМ ТРУБУ ДЕРЖИШ
Huh!?
What part do you not get?
I'm a beginner trumpet player. I come across these vids all the time. Really want to get into jazz. Lol, all of the musical terminology is above my brain grade.
Gotcha. Think of it this way, anytime you see a half diminish chord, play the notes that are located in the major scale 1/2 step above. It will always sound good!
Metronome 80-200 and 16tins like they come , Just keep the Rhythm ❤🎺🏆🏆🌅🌅🌅🌅🌅🌅
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Where can i talk with you?I want you to look at my emboushure! And nice video!
Man as simple as you make it sound, this is wayyyyy over my head. What I hear in my head I can't play it.
Being able to play what you hear in your head is extremely difficult at first. It takes years for most of us to get even close. I wouldn’t worry about that in the beginning. I would just try to apply the knowledge and see how it goes. Baby steps!
@@JeffLewisTrumpet I'm amazed when I hear guys just rippin through solos on a track or during a performance, I wonder how are they able to do that just seemingly on the spot. In my mind those guys have to be thinking 100 mph, with flawless execution. And just listening to you and how break it all down and how you fly through the different chords and progressions I realize I missed so much in school.
@@oddstreet11 it’s never too late to learn!
SHIT I JUST SEARCHED TRUMPET RANGE EXERCISE AND I CLICKED ON THIS WITHOUT REALIZING IT WAS MY TRUMPET TEACHER HI JEFF
Hi Aleah! I think I may have given you this one already?
when i write a solo it doesnt fit the song
Try just using chord tones in your solo that you write out. It should fit.
I'm a tenor sax player and just picked up a trumpet for the first time. This is extremely helpful! I followed along with my sax and I was pleased with the result.
Great to hear!
Ohhh man this is just what I needed. Thanks bro
Good to hear! You’re welcome.
6th bar last note should be E flat (there is a natural E further)
Thanks
Hey Jeff! I also have a large overbite, and I have been hading a lot of trouble with upper register and endurance. How did you make the change to playing with your jaw forward? I'm finding it very challenging to making the switch and to produce a proper sound this way
The only thing that seems to help me was to set in more of a smile position and practice with my teeth more aligned with a very small gap. Sometimes I would practice with my teeth together like the Cat Andersen method. Let me know how it goes.
Thank you so much for this video. I have my high school jazz band auditions coming up and I have never played jazz before
You’re welcome. Best of luck on the audition!
The scales are: 12 major, melodic minor, diminished, and whole tone.
Yes!
Thank you. Great advice!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I real pro is good. but i'm a bassist. there is no melody line to guide me along. Will BAND IN A BOX be better?
Band in a box is more expensive. Also, I’m not sure if that comes with a Melody either.
Keep up the great content mate 👍🎺
Will do!
Thanks for turning me on to Harry Sweets Edison. That's the sound and style I would like to emulate.
Me too!
I have experienced lip swelling since day 1. if I have a heavy day of practice, which is almost every day recently I get swollen upper lip after only 5 minutes. Is this normal, or should I pack it in? i'm not using too much pressure. im not allergic, etc. but the next day when i play in the high range some days my lips struggle just to get a buzz. thoughts?? note. Im a classical player. not a jazz guy.
Do you usually practice in the morning? The reason I’m asking is my lips are always stiff and swollen in the morning but if I start my practice session after say noon, it’s a lot easier. Also, are you resting as much as you play? I particularly avoid playing for long periods of time when I first put the horn to my face in the morning. Also, if I find my morning session to be really stiff and non-productive. I will pack it in and try to again in three or four hours. I usually have a “honeymoon” period around 5 PM so it changes throughout the day. Lastly, try practicing for four or five days without ever having the feeling like you are completely chopped and exhausted. Leave a little in the tank as it were. Let me know how it goes.
@@JeffLewisTrumpet if I play in the morning yes, they aren't as responsive as after im up for a while. Awesome Ill try that! it's true I play till "failure" too often . 🙏🙏
What’s the music of the phone one?? 😭😭 hard to search with no lyrics🙏🏻
If you’re looking for the play along track, it would be the same chord changes as “Blue Bossa”. Does that answer your question?
number 11 is a bit of a gem, thank you
You’re welcome!
emphasis on number 1 really control the airflow and keep it consistent, the rest is expression
Sounds almost too simple doesn’t it?!
0:35 - 0:45 I paused the video and arched my tongue an instantly produced one of the purest high notes ever
Great to hear!
im in 9th grade and ive been capped at a d above the staf but my true range is really up to a g above the staff (i can go higher but its really 50 50 on demand but in the moment i could hit it) ill try these to see if they work and ill update yall
Great! Yes, high D above High C always seems to be the playing range for most. It can be quite difficult to figure out how to play above that high D ceiling. Best of luck!
I needed this!... Like... 15 years ago... 😑
Right?! Me too!
Fantastic concert at sjsu with your Latin band! It's too bad you leave so fast after rehearsal though.
bro
Thanks for attending!
Merci beaucoup Jeff! I.m a trumpet player from Montréal in Canada.
Hello! Thank you for checking out my content.
If it is true (and it’s true) that jazz started with “blues” you are opening a door for a lot of us starting with jazz trumpet. Thanks, grazie!!!
I agree! A lot of people start with bebop when really, I think you should start from the beginning with the blues. Thanks for checking out my content!
its actually 110 bpm not 100
Really good!
